AcuTransit Mobile Application

AcuTransit Mobile Application

As part of the recent Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Hack My Ride 2.0 challenge, Acumen’s product development team created AcuTransit, a smartphone application that offers VTA bus riders a better way to know their VTA bus routes inside and out.  AcuTransit is an Android mobile application (iOS is on the way) that uses VTA’s General Transit Feed Specification open data along with real-time 511.org and Google Places JSON feed data.

AcuTransit logoAcuTransit detects the Bluetooth low-energy beacons integrated at a VTA bus route and displays each and every stop of that route, the estimated bus arrival times at the stops of that route, and major points of interest along the route.

AcuTransit is especially helpful for new and less experienced transit riders contemplating different routes and is designed to make the VTA bus-riding experience throughout Santa Clara County more efficient and fun via better informed transit riders. Google.org is working on something similar with Wayfindr, a transit application developed specially to help visually impaired travelers navigate transit systems, currently being tested on the London Underground.
