As part of the Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis (IDEA) Program managed by the Transportation Research Board National Academies of Sciences, Acumen prepared the following Transit IDEA 79 Project Report, Implementation of Smart Card Automatic Fare Collection Technology in Small Transit Agencies for Standards Development.
The Acumen Transit IDEA 79 Project plan culminated in a 90-day pilot operation that successfully demonstrated the feasibility and operability of the American Public Transportation Association Contactless Fare Media System Standard on a small agency. Eliminating the need for a proprietary solution drove down the implementation cost.
