Acumen 2021 Wall Calendar cover artwork

Support for Visual Artists

Over the years, President & CEO Walter E. Allen has collected artwork on his travels purchased directly from artists. When you visit Acumen, you’ll see art from various art movements and styles displayed throughout the home office in Oakland. The walls are lined with paintings and photography from Africa, Bahamas, Bali, Barbados, Cuba, India, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Thailand and cities across the United States.

In an effort to share this collection with Acumen’s friends and partners, Acumen developed a 2021 Wall Calendar that features unique pieces from Panama and Nicaragua. The next year, Acumen and Brandywine Workshop and Archives (BWA) collaborated on a 2022 Wall Calendar with artwork provided by BWA that was designed to catalyze and support learning about diverse cultures around the world. Each month, the calendar presents a narrative of spiritual, social and economic influences that are personal to the artist yet also address the universal realities of the human struggle in all its resilience and triumph. Watch for more information on how Acumen continues to support visual artists.
